Miao embroidery is a living archive of ethnic culture. Different Miao branches exhibit distinctive styles and motifs, acting as “visual clan badges” that record migration routes and regional characteristics. For example, the embroidery of southeastern Guizhou features butterfly and spiral patterns, reflecting the twists and turns of their ancestors’ journeys, while that of western Hunan highlights mountains and rivers to express attachment to their lands.
